CHANGE YOUR
BLADE
The short answer, a simple guide by how often you shave, and the signs your blade has had its day.
For regular shaving, change your blade about once a week. That’s our recommendation, and it works out at roughly 5 to 7 shaves if you shave most days. General guidance puts the range at around 5 to 10 shaves, depending on your hair, your skin and your technique. The best test is simple: if the razor pulls, needs more pressure or leaves your skin irritated, change it.
A Simple Guide by How Often You Shave
| How often you shave | Change your blade |
|---|---|
| Most days | About once a week |
| Every other day | Every 1 to 2 weeks, or sooner if it starts to pull |
| Once or twice a week | About every 2 weeks, or when it starts to drag |
| Thick or coarse hair | Toward the sooner end of any of the above |
Treat this as a starting point. Your skin and your blade are the best judges.
Five Signs It’s Time for a New Blade
A sharp blade glides through hair. A worn one catches it and tugs, which you’ll feel straight away.
Action: Change it as soon as you notice tugging. If you’re pressing harder or going back over the same patch, the blade is no longer cutting cleanly.
Action: Fix the blade, not your grip.Redness, stinging and small bumps after a shave often point to a tired blade. See our razor burn guide for more.
Action: Swap the blade before you change anything else.A dull blade is more likely to snag skin than slice hair.
Action: Treat repeated nicks as a blade warning.Dents, jagged edges or rust mean the blade should go straight in the bin.
Action: Replace it immediately, whatever its age.Why It Matters
A worn blade doesn’t just give a worse shave. It increases friction, which is one of the most common causes of razor burn, and it makes you press harder, which makes things worse. Changing your blade on time is the cheapest way to improve almost any shave. Our sensitive skin guide has a two-week reset if your skin has been struggling.

Frequently asked questions
Most razor guidance says no. A blade gets duller with every shave, and a dull blade is a common cause of irritation. If it’s still comfortable after a few weeks, you probably shave very rarely.
It pulls, you need more pressure, your skin is more irritated than usual, or you’re getting nicks. If you notice any of these, change it.
Not necessarily, and our advice is the same for both: about once a week for regular shaving, or sooner if it starts to pull.
Blades don’t last forever, even if you use them rarely. Change yours when it starts to tug, or about every couple of weeks.
Yes. You can change, delay or cancel at any time for free, from your account.
A good rule is one blade a week if you shave regularly. A better rule is to change it the moment it feels different. Sharp blades make shaving quicker, easier and kinder to your skin.
